1: Who are you?

Ben Addison.

2: What is your background?

Currently a pillow, headboard and white wall.

3: Where were you born?

Charing Cross hospital, London, England.

4: Explain your work in up to 40 words.

Action and beauty. Images that generate feelings of excitement. But i’ve only been painting seriously for a year.

5: How has your practice changed over time?

I’ve only been using oils for a year and before that I painted very seldom with acrylics.

6: Do you have a favourite medium to work in?

Oil is the most versatile, but to quickly capture an image, whatever is at hand.

7: Do you pursue any themes? If so what?

So far it’s been cars in motion and women I find especially attractive.

8: What other jobs have you done/do you do other than being an artist?

I’ve spent most of my life performing and writing music, and more recently worked as airline check-in agent, copywriter and voice over artist.

9: What research do you do for your art?

Watch TV, films, internet, magazines.

10: What makes you angry?

Lazy parenting resulting in people with a lack of consideration for anyone else.

11: What is your favourite colour?

Navy blue.

12: What is your favourite piece that you have produced?

It’s always the latest- just like with making music.

13: What music/album are you currently listening to?

Yesterday it was the Cool Hand Luke soundtrack by Lalo Schiffrin but I check out good stuff in the Facebook forum the Funk Pen.

14: What makes you happy?

People getting along.

15: What are your favourite films?

My list keeps getting bigger-I like many genres of music and film, but standouts would be the original Planet of the Apes, Connery as James Bond, Bladerunner, Starwars, Bedazzled (original,) Guide for the married man-anything with Walter Matthau, and an enormous number of 50’s and 60’s mainstream family movies and musicals- pure eye candy.

16: Favourite place?

When you live abroad that’s a tough question. I’m lucky enough to have travelled a lot through performing and US holidays as a child, so anywhere with family or friends makes me feel good.

17: One or more artists you like?

I don’t yet follow any contemporary art scene so it’s mostly old illustrators like Rockwell, Coby Whitmore, Bob Peak, Syd mead. But I like stuff by Nathan Pendlebury.

18: What is your favourite word?

Yes.

19: Professionally what is your goal?

To make enough from painting and music to pay all debts and travel more.

20: What would your dream commission be?

I was nominated to paint part of a chapel near Paris but logic says someone more local got that. A project that big (15m) needed an assistant/ co-worker which would have been great as i’m a twin and always enjoy collaborations.
