1: Who are you?
Dex Hannon – One quarter of the Broken Toy Company. 4 Artists one Mind
2: What is your background?
My background is art with a series of experiments in normal work.
3: Where were you born?
Born in Manchester
4: Explain your work in up to 40 words.
My work is an exploration of contradiction and opposition. I try to create a battle of foreground and background. Make the painting live. Abstract loose forms juxtaposed against solid linear, structural, geometric form. Or Maybe I’m trying to make polar opposites comfortable alongside each other.
5: How has your practice changed over time?
I have become braver with my work. More risk taking. Loosened the marbles to see what happens
6: Do you have a favourite medium to work in?
Acrylics and Molotow Pens/Sprays. Quick and great flat lines & colours
7: Do you pursue any themes? If so what?
Opposites. My work is about either bringing together diametrically opposed styles together to clash or to unite them. Make them work together. Could be the hippy upbringing fighting back.
8: What other jobs have you done/do you do other than being an artist?
Art Teacher/Admin/Comms Manager/ whatever pays to keep me going in lean periods.
9: What research do you do for your art?
Research techniques, taking photographs, better recorder than my mind.
10: What makes you angry?
Ruined work. That step too far when you ignored that voice telling you its finished.
11: What is your favourite colour?
Changes on a daily basis, today its yellow. Yesterday it was a lovely rich blue.
12: What is your favourite piece that you have produced?
That’s harsh. Again it changes. Sometimes its one piece then its another. Sometimes the piece you loved one day is hated the next. Well it is for me.
13: What music/album are you currently listening to?
Depends what I’m working on, Animal Collective and Kōenji Hyakkei are getting a lot of spins when I’m working.
14: What makes you happy?
When you get a breakthrough with an idea or painting.
15: What are your favourite films?
Film Noir & Kapra films always find a place in my heart.

To be able to paint full time with shows across the globe.
