call for entries: oriel davies open 2016
Oriel Davies launches call for submissions for its esteemed biennial Open exhibition. Deadline 9 October 2015.
The time is upon us again where we invite artists and those studying art to submit entries of new and recent work for the opportunity of being selected for the prestigious Oriel Davies Open. The 2016 Open presents painting as its focus and Oriel Davies seeks submissions from artists exploring the practice and potential of this medium, encouraging diverse interpretations. The resulting selection will feature in an exhibition at Oriel Davies from 16 April – 15 June 2016.
The selection panel comprises three individuals held in high regard in the arts industry who have specialist knowledge and interest in contemporary and historic painting. These include; international artist Clare Woods who had a solo show of new paintings at Oriel Davies in 2014 and touring 2015-2016 in Wales; Nick Thornton, Head of Fine Art at Amgueddfa-Cymru National Museum Wales, Cardiff; Dr Rebecca Daniels Art Historical Researcher, Catalogue Raisonné of Francis Bacon. The fourth selector is Alex Boyd Jones, Curator at Oriel Davies.
The final selection is judged by the panel and the winning categories include an overall prizewinner who receives a cash prize of £1000 and an invitation to have a solo show at Oriel Davies the subsequent year, and a student prize winner who receives a cash prize of £500.
In addition, audiences will be invited to vote for their favourite work in the People’s Choice Prize of £250 which will be awarded to the artist whose work receives the most votes. This prize is kindly sponsored by Newtown Station Travel.
Deadline Friday 9 October 2015
There is no geographical restriction and entry is open both to professional artists and to students (17+) currently training in visual art.
